How Do You Reset A GFCI Protected Outlet?
Electrical equipment placed in a wet environment and malfunctioning electrical equipment can cause a severe shock or death. Ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs) shut off power to electrical equipment during an electrical surge. You will need to manually reset a tripped GFCI to send electrical current to the protected outlet after the malfunctioning equipment or wet conditions are removed. Not all GFCI outlets are resettable at the outlet, and at times you will need to locate the reset location. Unplug all electrical equipment from the tripped GFCI outlet. Allow the sockets of the GFCI to dry if they are wet. Press the red “Reset” button located above the black “Test” button on the face of the GFCI, if the outlet is equipped with such buttons. The “Test” button will click into position and the light will turn on if the GFCI resets. The GFCI is not receiving power if the “Test” button will not click into position. Locate your home’s breaker panel. Open the breaker panel cover. Look
