How Do You Run 1600M Track Relay?
• Assemble a relay team. Decide which order you will be running. The best strategy is: • 1st runner- 2nd fastest runner • 2nd runner- 4th fastest (slowest) runner • 3rd runner- 3rd fastest runner • 4th runner- 1st fastest (anchor) runner • Know the basic and general rules. The race starts with a staggered start (where all the first runners are in separate lanes at different places on the track). The race usually starts at the beginning of a curve on the track. • Learn how to pace yourself so that you can run the entire lap in the best time. • Have the first runner take off after the gun sounds. They should be running at a fast pace, but not sprinting as fast as possible. The pace for the first curve should be pretty fast. • Once they get to the end of the first curve, and get onto the first straightaway, they should slow down their pace dramatically.
