Always follow rules and guidelines for your state safety laws. This will not only keep you out of a ticket but it could also save your childs life. When your child is an infant place them in a rear facing infant seat in the back seat of the vehicle. They should sit like this from birth to 1 year old and at least 20 pounds. When your child becomes a toddler they should sit in a forward facing toddler seat in the back seat of a vehicle. You should use this seat from age 1 to 3 and with them weighing more than 20 pounds. From the ages of 4 to 8 and being less than 4'9'' tall they should ride in a booster seat located in the backseat of the vehicle. When your child reaches the age of nine and are taller than 4'9'' then they can start wearing only a seatbelt. All kids should ride in the back seat until the ages of 12 to 13 for there safety. Never let a child sit in front of an airbag.  more
