How Do You Seal A Stained Wood Entry Door?
Wood entry doors face a lot of abuse from the elements. Rain, snow, blaring sun and other weather conditions cause sealants to deteriorate over time. If the door is new, or the sealant is dull, without flakes, chips or cracks, the door is much easier to seal than when the sealant has deteriorated enough to have bare spots. Many wood door manufacturer warranties require that doors are sealed to protect them from the elements. Open the door slightly. Place the awe or large nail at the bottom of each hinge and use the hammer to tap the head of the awe or large nail to push the hinge pins up and out of the hinge. Remove the door from the hinges after removing all hinge pins. Lay the door flat on sawhorses with towels between the sawhorse and door to prevent damaging the wood. Remove door hardware (such as door knobs, deadbolt assemblies and hinges) from the door. Place each set of hardware in a separate, sealable container or bag so the parts stay together.
