How Do You Separate A Whirlpool Washer Agitator?
Whirlpool manufactures a line of washing machines that uses a center post to agitate garments in the basket. The top half of this agitator can be replaced if the fins are damaged; it is generally the first component removed to access the basket and tub. The agitator can be separated with common hand tools and basic mechanical skills. Unplug the washer from the wall outlet. Grasp and pull the fabric-softener dispenser off the top of the agitator. Remove the barrier cap from the agitator by pulling it up and out. Remove the hex bolt inside the agitator using the ratchet, extension and socket, then lift the top half of the agitator out of the washer unit. Set the top half of the agitator aside. Grasp the bottom half the agitator, then pull it up and off the drive-motor shaft. Lift the bottom half of the agitator out of the washer unit.
