How do you separate rock salt to produce rock particles and salt crystals?

‘Rock Salt’ is in fact salt but not totally pure – but it probably is not ‘rock’ that is contaminating the salt. More likeley iron oxide or rust stains it a red colour. Rock salt gets its name from being mined on land as opposed to sea salt which is obviously taken from the Sea in one way or another. To produce pure salt crystals take some distilled water 500cc say and stir in your impure rock salt until the particles collect on the bottom of the flask and cant be made to disappear however hard you stir. You now have a SATURATED SOLUTION. Place to one side and allow the water to evaporate naturally (in a warm place speeds this up). As it does pure white crystalline salt will form on the sides of the flask. And Thats It – Youve done It – Seemples!
