Learn to sharpen the bit at home and you’ll never need to wait on a professional again. Turn your bench grinder on. Hold the bit tightly between your gloved fingers. Move the bit back and forth over the grinder, making sure to concentrate on the edge of the blade. Leave the pointed edges, or tines, at the edge of the blade alone as much as possible. Touch up the edges last. This should only take a quick second for each tine. Wipe away any burrs left on the spade bit with your gloved finger. If some burrs remain attached, you’ll need to touch them up quickly with the grinder. Clamp the spade drill bit in a vise. Push the file across the bits edge about 5 times on each side of the bit. Brush the file across each tined end a few times. Be sure to keep them intact and try not to over-sharpen them. Rub the file across each side of the bit to remove
