Using a dull tool takes more energy and can mess up your project if you opt for a chisel that is too small or too large for the task at hand. Sharpening your chisels won’t take long and you’ll be ready to follow through on your woodcarving project with less effort than you may think. Adjust the tool rest on the grinder so that the chisel lies flat on the rest and not just the edge of it. Set the angle of the tool rest to match that of the bevel of your tool. Most chisels have a 25-degree bevel. Rest the bevel of the chisel against the grinding wheel. Clamp the rectangular block to the blade with the C clamp so that the long side of the block rests against the bottom edge of the tool rest. Use this as a reference point for an even edge and stop.
