How Do You Show A Saint Bernard In A Dog Show?
You’ve been waiting for this moment. You chose your Saint Bernard carefully, following breed standards, you worked with him, trained him in conformation classes, bathed and groomed him dozens of times, and now you’re here: the show. Sign your young Saint up for a puppy category in an upcoming AKC (American Kennel Club) dog show. He must be at least 6 months old. The AKC provides an extensive list of all certified shows. (See Resources) Seek out a dog show that is only for Saint Bernards or one that allows dogs of all breeds to enter. Specialty shows are sometimes hard to find, so consider giving your Saint some well-needed experience in shows with all breeds first. When he wins enough times, you can find shows for Saint Bernards only. Hire a professional handler for your Saint if you feel you cannot show him well.
