The cut is critical: if it’s sloppy you’ll get tobacco leaves on your lips and mouth. A great cut is fast, straight, and clearly made on the line or “cap” that should be easy to see at the front of the cigar. After a proper cut, make sure to light the cigar so it burns evenly. To do this, you want to rotate the cigar at the very end of a lighter’s flame, and to puff in to get a black ring that then burns to center. An even burn is critical to smoking a good cigar properly, and to fully enjoy the experience. Smoke it SLOW! This is the biggest mistake many beginning cigar smokers make.
