setting both equations are equal to each other

2x-3=x^2-2x-8

x^2-4x-5=0

rewrite the above equation as

x^2-5x+x-5=0

x(x-5)+1(x-5)=0

(x+1)(x-5)=0

either x+1=0 or x-5=0

x=-1 or x=5
