How Do You Splice Wiring For Light Fixtures?
Into every wire a splice must fall. Knowing the right way to make a splice is essential for wiring a light fixture, whether the splice is at the light fixture, the light switch, or somewhere in between. Use simple tools and the right materials, and you’ll have a splice you can be proud of in no time. Turn the power off to the circuits you’ll be working on, preferably at the breaker box. Post a note or sign to warn people not to turn the power on. Strip the insulation off of the wires to be joined so that 3/8 to 1/2 inch of bare wire is visible. Hold the wires together, parallel, so that the bare wires are touching. Insert the wires into your wire nut, and twist the connector until it feels tight. Give the wires a gentle tug to be sure that the wires are securely fastened in the wire nut. Take a piece of electrical tape and wrap the base of the wire nut and the wires going into the wire nut for an extra measure of insulation and security.
