How Do You Splint A Fractured Foot In The Wilderness?

0

Splinting a fracture is important for reducing pain and speeding healing. This technique uses socks and a shoe as splinting material. Assess for fracture (see “How to Assess for Fracture”). Immobilize the injury: Any movement is not only very painful but also can worsen the injury. Put enough socks on the foot to fit snugly into a boot or shoe. Cut away the toe of the shoe and the socks underneath in order to monitor the toes for circulation, sensation and motion. Put the shoe on the foot, being extremely careful to minimize movement of the injured area. Check circulation, sensation and motion beyond the fracture sight. Continue with further treatment for the fracture (see related eHows on treating fractures).
