How Do You Stain A Cedar Chest?
Applying a stain to your cedar chest is a great way to protect the wood. Stains can make the surface easier to clean and extend the life of the chest as well. Many people enjoy the grain of cedar and a stain will only enhance this. It does not matter if your cedar chest is new or several years old, a stain may always be applied to the exterior surfaces. Prepare the chest by removing any hardware, such as a handle, that may interfere with the staining process. Use sandpaper to sand away gently any splinters in the wood. Keep in mind that cedar is a soft wood that will not require a great deal of force to sand. Make sure to sand all exterior surfaces of the cedar chest. Open your can of oil-based wood stain and use a paint stirrer to mix it up. Dip your paintbrush into the can of stain to saturate the bristles. Using your paintbrush, start painting at the bottom of your cedar chest and slowly work your way toward the top. Let the cedar chest dry thoroughly. Apply a second coat of stain.
