How Do You Stain Unfinished Oak Cabinets?
New oak cabinets are a beautiful complement to any kitchen, office or bathroom. Whatever shade of stain you’ve chosen as a finish for your cabinets, proper preparation and application will ensure a result that will bring out the inherent beauty of the wood, and will provide lasting protection for years to come. Use a screwdriver to remove all of the cabinet doors from the cabinet face frames. Remove the hinges and handles completely from the doors. Remove the drawers from the cabinet frames. Remove the handles and screws from the drawer fronts, if they have been installed. Lightly sand all of the cabinet frames, drawer fronts and doors with sandpaper to smooth the surfaces and knock down any raised grain. Cover the drawer boxes with masking tape where the drawer boxes meet the back of the drawer fronts.
