Staying in shape once you are no longer in the military does not mean you need to continue to run five miles daily. Stay in shape and enjoy it at the same time. If you love it, keep working out like you always have. For some, running is enjoyable. Spending time alone running clears the head and lowers stress. If you can continue this level of exercise and want to, do it. For everyone else, keep exercising in some form or another. Although you do not need to run five miles each day, you probably should be active for at least 30 minutes on at least three days out of the week. This includes walking, dancing, playing softball or other sports. Stay active. Develop interests such as walking or gardening that will keep you physically active without forcing strenuous activity.
