It can be terrifying when an earthquake strikes. Keep your wits about you and stay safe through an earthquake. If the ground begins to shake, take a quick survey of your surroundings. If you are inside: Drop to the floor and make your way under a heavy table or desk if you can. Hold on to whatever you are using for cover. You can use a strong doorway if there is one close by. Stay away from windows that can shatter, book cases and shelves that could topple, and heavy light fixtures that might fall. Cover your face and head with your arms to protect yourself from debris.
