Bathtub leaks are generally caused by broken, rotten or brittle washers. This a normal occurrence in most homes. A leaking faucet will normally be fixed with only a couple of cheap washers. The leak can cause damage to the bathtub, and it can keep you up late at night with the noise. Locate the main water supply to the home. This is usually in a basement, garage or outside of the home. Turn off the water supply to the home by turning the handle in line with the water line. Turn the handle for the bathtub in the on position. This relieves the pressure out of the lines to prevent water from spraying out when you work on the faucet. Pry off the cap that sits in the center of the handle. If it does not pry off with the flat-head screwdriver, then unscrew it with an adjustable wrench. Turn in a counterclockwise motion. It will come right off. Remove the screw that sits below the cap that you had removed with a Phillips screwdriver using a counterclockwise motion. Pull the handle off the val
