Nosebleeds are a common complaint seen in emergency departments. In this article, you will learn some easy steps to try to control bleeding before/while you seek definitive medical treatment. Blow all the clots out of your nose. Have lots of tissue and your trash can handy, there is usually a lot of blood. Pinch your nose for 10 minutes straight. Time yourself with your clock and don’t let up until the 10 minutes is past. When pinching your nose, the goal is to apply pressure to the septum-the part in the middle of the nasal cavity that divides it into two halves. The best way to do this is to make a fist and pinch the nose between the closed index(pointer) finger and the thumb. The nostrils should be completely occluded. After 10 minutes, let go. If the bleeding has stopped, you are done. Do not blow, rub, pick or manipulate your nose for 24 hours. This could cause the clot to dislodge and the bleeding to restart. If your nose is still bleeding, go to the next step. Blow the clots out
