• Find the emergency stop button or alert somebody else to find it by shouting out the instructions calmly, clearly and quickly. Press the button to stop the escalator. Try this alternative if, for some reason, the button cannot be located or used. • Get a lot of people. • Have them hop onto the escalator. • Have them hold on to the side black rubber rail and lift their feet off the escalator steps. The rubber rail should stop, then soon enough the the stairs will stop too.
