How Do You Store Eggs Without A Refrigerator?
Many people nowadays live “off the grid” and have to find alternative methods of storing their food to keep it fresh. I was told of the following method when I was living without electricity in a remote location in the mountains years ago. Here’s how to keep eggs fresh without a refrigerator. Pack unwashed fresh eggs that are free of cracks into a 25-lb. flour sack that has been lined with at least 4 inches of flour. Ensure the eggs are not touching each other. Cover the eggs with another 4 inches of flour. This will keep the eggs cool and fresh longer than if they were just stored unrefrigerated on the pantry shelf. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 until all your eggs have been placed in the flour sack. Carefully move the sack to a cool cellar or basement room where they will stay until you are ready to use them.
