When you knit, adding beads can provide sparkle to your finished garment. Knitting with beads requires a little advance preparation; you have to choose beads that will work with your yarn in color and size, and also string them in advance so they will be ready to use when you knit with them. Thread your yarn through a bead needle. If you do not have a bead needle, you can make one yourself; simply bend a 6-inch length of bead wire in half and twist the free ends together, leaving a small loop at the bent end. This will be the eye of your needle, so string your yarn through this. String your beads onto the needle and push them down the yarn. Make sure your beads have a large enough opening to fit smoothly onto your yarn; they should fit closely without tearing or snagging the yarn as they move on it.
