So you just got your first office job, or a new one and you do not want to be part of the “water cooler” crowd, may this be at the water cooler, the snack room, or the coffee machine, though this can seem very tempting as they know every detail of everyone and you may think it can help you in the long run with a promotion. But then you think that what parts of their stories are true and do you really want to know all the details of their weekend and family issues? But eventually you will have to head to that part of the office. Do not go to the area, and avoid it at all costs. If you have to go and get a drink make sure that it is the “quiet” time, and if you ran into someone that just needs to tell you the details of her life even though you just met, keep your conversation short and simple and let them know you are on a deadline.
