Sweating a copper water line connected to a drinking fountain is like soldering any other copper pipe line. You must determine where you’re going to cut into an existing cold water line to solder in a tee fitting. From this tee a new water line can be installed to the drinking fountain. With a few tools and an understanding of simple soldering, you can do the job yourself instead of using a professional plumber. Prepare the copper pipes and any fittings for soldering. Dry fit everything first to ensure all the pipe is cut to the correct length. Using Emory paper, clean all the outside surfaces of the copper where it is to slip into a copper fitting. Stick a pipe bristle brush into the copper fittings and twist it around a couple of times to clean the inside surfaces. Brush on paste flux with a flux brush–a small brush with stiff, synthetic bristles–to the outside of the copper pipe and the inside of the fittings. Stick the copper pipes and fittings together.
