Over time, crystal can become cloudy looking. This is caused by mineral deposits and tiny scratches that occur on the crystal’s soft surface. Here are some tips on how to keep your crystal clear. Being proactive is the first step to keeping your crystal looking new. That means regularly dusting (especially chandeliers) and properly storing your crystal. Stemware should be placed in a cupboard with plenty of space around each piece. Regularly dusting your crystal will prevent you from having to wash your crystal. At some point, however, you will have to wash your crystal. First, do NOT put your crystal in the dishwasher—-dishwashers are devastating to crystal. Place a towel on the bottom of the sink, to cushion the crystal, and fill the sink with warm water and a little bit of mild soap. Let the crystal soak for 5 to 10 minutes.
