• Describe the problems in full detail. Provide as much information as possible. Write down the symptoms and when they take place. If it is possible, always try to talk directly to the mechanic who will be assigned to fix your car. • Avoid saying what you think is causing the problem. You could be on the hook for repairs the shop makes at your suggestion, even if the problems can’t be solved. • Request permission to take a test drive. If the problem or problems take place while the car is in motion ask the mechanic to accompany you. Ask for solid proof. If you’re not so comfortable with the diagnosis, ask the repair shop to show you. Parts such as worn brake pads or rusted exhaust pipes are very easy to see. Never let the mechanic refuse your request by saying insurace excuses. Insist on solid evidence anyway.
