Teaching cheerleading dances requires multiple practice sessions and an organized routine. Cheerleading dances are used for halftime performances and competitions. Dance routines for halftime shows should consist of no more than five separate “8 count” segments. Most high school halftime breaks are limited to 20 minutes, so keeping the performance short and well timed is key to a successful routine. Both the home and visiting cheerleaders perform a dance and floor cheer during halftime. A cheerleading competition dance routine time is dictated by the event guidelines.
