How Do You Teach Art With The Humanistic Theory?
Humanistic theories of education are notoriously difficult to implement in classroom settings, as they are more prescriptive rather than descriptive. In other words, the pedagogical ideas put forth by humanistic thinkers such as Malcolm Knowles and Carl Rogers to focus on the abstract side of learning (i.e. why you should want to learn something) rather than the practical side (i.e. how you actually go about learning something). Still, it is possible to cull concrete methods of teaching from humanistic theory—especially in a creative field such as art, whose open-endedness seems to parallel much of the thinking behind humanistic theories of learning. Establish a positive climate for learning art. Do not think of yourself as an authority figure whose role it is to impart knowledge into your students.
