Determining if a discus is male or female is something hobby breeders want to do to learn if they have a breeding pair of fish. Making the distinction isn’t possible until the fish are adults, as juvenile fish look the same. Once the fish are adults, there are some subtle signs that may help you determine the sex of the fish. Look at the size of the fish. Generally, the male discus fish will be slightly larger than the female if both fish are mature. Study the lips of the fish.
