How Do You Tell If A DVD Is NTSC Or PAL?
It’s a common misconception that there are two different type of DVDs: NTSC or PAL. In actuality, the DVD just transports the data and in either of the two different formats. NTSC is primarily used in the U.S. and plays at 30 frames per second. PAL is commonly used in Europe and Asia and plays at 25 frames per second. Find out which format is on a DVD by following these steps. Step 1 Locate the packaging if the DVD was commercially made. Step 2 Read the back side of the case. Manufacturers place information such as the region, the sound quality, and whether the DVD is NTSC or PAL on the lower left hand corner of the packaging. Step 3 Place unmarked DVDs into a personal computer with DVD-drive capabilities. Computers, as of 2009, are also factory installed with players that handle NTSC or PAL. When the DVD is inserted, use a “file/info” option to determine its format.
