How Do You Track Dall Sheep?
The Dall sheep is a magnificent creature. The male or ram sports large spiraling horns. They are rather like mountain goats without the shaggy hair, having semi-flexible cloven hooves and a liking for high places with steep, rocky terrain. Research which habitat you’re likely to find Dall sheep in. They tend to frequent mountainous country that is dry, rather than wet. You may find them in alpine meadows, ridges, and steep slopes–anywhere with steep “escape terrain.” Ask around, talk to locals and outfitters. You’ll be several steps ahead if they give you hints about where to find Dall sheep and what the local sheeps’ habits may be. Make sure you know exactly what a Dall sheep track look like.
