A puppy can be a wonderful addition to your family for many years, but just like children, they are much more enjoyable if they can follow basic commands. The first step is to teach them to stay. One very important thing when you are starting out to remember is you should be in a quiet, non distracting place so your puppy will focus his attention on you. You also need to remember that you need to be firm and consistant while rewarding the puppy for success with praise and a treat. Start by putting the lead and collar on. Tell the puppy to sit while gently pushing the puppy’s hips to make him sit. When he does this you need to give him a treat and pet him making a big deal over him so he will know this is a positive step. At first do not make him stay there for very long.
