Underground fencing, also known as invisible fencing, is a discreet choice for keeping your dogs on your property when you are not watching them. You can simply open your back door and let the dogs out for exercise or to use the bathroom, knowing they will not leave the yard. This type of fencing is also less expensive than installing above-ground fencing. Place red flags around your yard where the underground fencing is. This is going to give your dog a visual, so that he learns not to go past the flags. Place your dog's collar on and make sure it has a fresh battery. The collar will give off a high-pitched warning sound when the dog gets too close to the fence. If the battery is dead, the warning signal and the shock mechanism will not work. Take your dog outside and walk toward the flags. Once you get close to a flag, say, "No" in a firm voice and turn away from the flag.
