Yorkshire Terriers, named for the English city where they originated, are classified by the American Kennel Club as belonging to the toy group. The term teacup Yorkie refers to an exceptionally small subgroup of Yorkshire terriers who are bred for their diminutive size. The AKC describes Yorkies as adaptable dogs who require daily interaction with their people. They are naturally brave, curious and energetic; a big-dog personality in a tiny package. They are also independent and free-spirited which can present some challenges for training. Housebreak your teacup Yorkie by keeping her in a crate while you are gone and at night while you are sleeping. Dogs do not like to use the bathroom in the same place where they sleep.
