• Install the drivers for your video capture device. Then download and install VirtualDub (a free open-source video capture and editing program available from http://www.virtualdub.org/) and Huffyuv (a very fast lossless video codec, available free from Berkeley. • Connect the capture device to the PC, and connect the VCR to the capture device using the S-Video and RCA audio cables. • Open VirtualDub and select “Capture AVI…” from the File menu. Next, select your capture device from the Device menu. (Note: the WinTV HVR-850 appears as the HVR-950 for some reason.) Next, from the Video menu select “Set custom format…” and choose a frame size of 720 x 480, and data format of “UYVY YUV 4:2:2 interleaved”. (Note: UYVY YUV 4:2:2 interleaved is the format that works with the Hauppauge WinTV device; other capture devices may require a different format.) Click OK.
