To unclog a sink, you need to remove the trap. This is part of the drain piping located underneath your sink. Open your cabinet to get access to the bottom of your sink. The pipe may have one or two sections depending on the age of it. Use a wrench or your hand and twist the pipe off at each connection. Note, there is a threaded piece at each junction that you need to loosen. Make sure to put a plastic bucket or pan underneath to catch the water and debris that will come out after you separate the pipes. Once you have removed the trap, look inside to see if food debris or hair have created a blockage. Remove with a straightened clothes hanger or snake. Reassemble the trap and run water to check drainage. If you do not find a clog in the trap, you may want to call a plumber. You may have a clog deeper in your plumbing.
