How Do You Use Fiberglass Drywall Tape?
Fiberglass drywall tape is used for covering the joints between drywall panels. The major benefit of fiberglass drywall tape is how easy it is to install. Because it is self-adhesive, fiberglass drywall tape doesn’t need to be embedded in a layer of joint compound, as paper drywall tape does. But fiberglass drywall tape is more prone to cracking than paper drywall tape, so use setting-type joint compound to create a stronger surface. Lay a section of fiberglass drywall tape over the entire length of the joint. Press it onto the joint, making sure to keep it centered. Cut away any loose strands or excess fiberglass tape. The tape should lay as flat as possible. Using a 12-inch drywall knife, cover the entire length of the fiberglass drywall tape with a coat of setting-type joint compound.
