Mothballs are small balls of chemical pesticide. They are either made of naphthalene or dichlorobenzene. Either chemical contains a strong odor that is usually associated with mothballs. The small balls give off a toxic gas and fumes that kill insects, primarily moths, and their larvae. They are generally placed in closed containers, such as sweater boxes in the summer, to make them more potent and more damaging to the invading moth. Although they are usually used to keep clothes moths from eating your sweaters, mothballs can be used for numerous household purposes. Cover the infested plant with a large garbage bag. Add three to four mothballs to the bag. Seal the bag and tie it around the base of the plant and leave it for one week. Remove the bag after the week has ended, taking care to open the bag slowly and allow the gases to escape. Identify areas in your yard that snakes frequent. Scatter a handful of mothballs in the trouble areas. Ensure mothballs are out of reach of household
