For gas dryers, the vent is also the only means for exhausting poisonous gases resulting from gas combustion, including carbon monoxide. Whenever possible, use rigid (smooth) steel or aluminum duct and fittings for the dryer vent. Rigid duct provides the best airflow and is the least vulnerable to lint buildup inside the duct.
