If you have a ceiling fan installed but aren’t happy with the location of the light switch, you can install a new light switch and control your ceiling fan from your desired location. In other situations, you might have had some incomplete household fan installations and want to complete the installation yourself. For whatever reason, knowing how to wire a ceiling fan light switch can be a valuable skill. Not only can you volunteer your skills to friends and family, you can take pride in having the know-how to do the job yourself. Measure the size of the light switch box. Mark the dimensions on the wall with a pencil. Drill a hole in the wall just inside the pencil line on the wall. Cut out the rectangular section of drywall by using a drywall saw. Make sure the light switch box fits into the hole and enlarge if necessary. Screw the mounting screws through the light switch box’s mounting holes and into the wall or an adjacent stud.
