Upgrading the light switches in your home could have a dramatic result on the overall aesthetic appearance of the interior of your house. Decorator switches are becoming more popular, but are no more difficult to wire than standard switches. Decorator switches can have a high price tag, so be careful when purchasing one and make sure it will operate the light fixture you have it designated for. Installing a single pole decorator switch is simple and straight forward. Turn off the power to the light controlled by the switch. Turn it off at the main electrical panel. Take off the face plate from the existing switch and unscrew the existing switch, pulling it from the wall enough to gain access to the wiring. Use the electrical voltage detector to ensure that there is no power at the switch. Loosen the screws on the existing switch and remove the wires from those screws.
