How Do You Wire A Hanging Light Fixture?
For people installing a new light fixture or replacing an old one, the step that often most intimidates is the actual wiring. Hanging light fixtures are no exception to this. However, this is one of the most straightforward wiring jobs a homeowner can perform. With the right tools and a little know-how, it is a job any do-it-yourselfer can manage. Turn off the electricity to the electrical box. Switch off the circuit breaker that controls the power to the room you are working in. Search for the wires coming out of the ceiling. There should be a black one, a white one and possibly a copper or green one. Match these to the wires on the hanging light fixture. Cut back about 1 inch of insulation from each individual wire, using wire strippers. Twist the individual metal fibers together, creating a tight bundle. Connect the black wire from the ceiling to the black wire on the fixture. Do the same thing for all other color wires, simply matching like color to like color. Twist a wire cap or
