A heat pump thermostat is quite different from a regular thermostat. Turn off power to HVAC equipment. Identify wire colors and the thermostat terminals that they are attached to and write them down on paper. Match the old terminals up to the new thermostat terminals. some older heat pump thermostats have an (L) and/or (T) terminal(s). If the new thermostat doesn’t have these terminals then disregard the wires and don’t connect them. Newer thermostats don’t need these terminals. Remove old thermostat and secure new thermostat to the wall. Attach wires to the like terminals on the new thermostat that you wrote down from the old thermostat. (E) (W1) (W2) (X2) are all electric heat. If there were terminals on the old one that are not on the new one then these wires can be combined. White wire should go on W1. Some thermostats already combine terminals like E/W1. E W2 and X2 can be combined if the new thermostat doesn’t have terminals for the wires that were hooked up on the old one. The o
