If you are building an O gauge model railroad layout and are installing electric track switches, wiring them takes only a few minutes. For this article, assume that you are adding an electric remotely controlled switch to your Lionel train layout. Select the track location where you intend to locate the switch and remove the section of track that the switch will replace. Attach the switch to the three adjacent track pieces. If required, use the pliers to help remove any stubborn track pins. Do not remove the plactic insulating pins from the switch body. Using your fingers, loosen and remove the three terminal nuts on the switch body. Set them aside. Slip the terminal ends of the switch controller assembly over the three terminal pins on the switch body and manually retighten the terminal nuts until the wires are snug and secure. Do not overtighten them or you may strip the fine threads. Turn on your track transformer or DC power pack. This will electrify the track and the switch. Press
