How Do You Wire Electric Trailer Brakes?

0

Wiring to trailer electric brakes can become brittle and cracked, or otherwise damaged and need to be replaced. Sometimes too, electric brakes are added to a trailer as an upgrade. Either way, wiring these electric brakes is a perfect do-it-yourself job. Locate the two wires on each electric brake. Connect one on each wheel to the trailer frame. A self-tapping sheet metal screw is best for this. Connect a blue 14-gauge wire to the remaining wire on each wheel. Use plastic wire ties and secure this wire to the frame, running one wire down each side of the frame to the trailer tongue. Replace the trailer connector with one that matches the connector on the truck and has a terminal for the brake wire. If the connector already on the truck does not have a brake terminal the truck side connector must be replaced with one that does.
