You can apply for a job at a United States Post Office to be a Postmaster Relief without any prior training or taking a postal exam. The job is called PMR. PMR stands for Postmaster Relief. The PMR is the relief or substitute for the postmaster. The PMR works whenever the regular postmaster takes a day off and usually on Saturdays. Currently the position pays $9.50 an hour or more depending on the office size. Excellent annual raises are given for this position and their is a union. After one year of serving as a PMR you can request a clerks test. Clerks start at almost $20 an hour. You can also bid on postmaster job vacancies.
