The day has come to shoot a scene in a restaurant. The main actors are seated at a table but the restaurant needs to look lively. Extras are people who are seen in film scenes but never really speak and are just there to make locations feel realistic. They are called in so this emptiness can be filled. Working with them can be something that many directors simply have no idea about. Treat them just like the regular cast. Extras are likely there as a favor and probably will not benefit from being in the movie. Your behavior towards them should be appreciate and thankful. Communicate thoroughly. They need to know what to do and when to do it. It would be a big shame if a perfectly acted take gets ruined because an extra did not know what to do.
