Typical Daily Tasks Floral designers trim and arrange live, dried or artificial flowers, mixing them with greenery to form pleasant displays. They must select the appropriate types of flowers, combine them into products such as bouquets and centerpieces and present the result to customers. Sometimes they will visit the customer's location or event site, such as a church for a wedding. A designer also may deliver arrangements to customers. If self-employed, which 33 percent of floral designers are, individuals may be responsible for typical business operations such as ordering supplies, hiring employees and keeping track of income and expenses. Working in a larger retail operation like a grocery store may give less opportunity for creative work if the supply arrives in prearranged bunches.
