Then it’s up to the Baseball Writers of America to vote for him or not. Ballots are distributed to sports writers all over the country. Writers may vote for as many players as they want. If at least 75% of them vote for a particular player, he gets elected. If only a few vote for a particular player, his name gets dropped from the next year’s ballot. Being elected in your first year of eligibility is considered quite an honor. After a certain number of years if the player has still not been elected, his name gets dropped from the Baseball Writers of America ballot regardless of how close he may have come year after year. Once that happens, the Hall of Fame Veterans Committee can select a player to be in the Hall of Fame even though the Baseball Writers of America had not deemed them worthy. That
