How does a Reed Diffuser Work?
There are two main components: the reeds and the oil. The quality of these two elements will determine (a) how well a scent will be diffused into the air and (b) how frequently replacements and refills are necessary. If the liquid cannot wick its way up and out of the bottle where it can evaporate, then the system fails. On the other hand, if the oil is of inferior quality it will evaporate much too quickly. To achieve the right balance, the two components must compliment each other. Just as a straw allows a liquid to travel through its interior, a reed has to be sufficiently hollow so that the fluid can travel through its entirety without stopping. For this reason, rattan reeds are the best choice for diffusers. Rattan contains bundles of fibers that are oriented in such a way that they naturally conduct liquid. It is far superior to bamboo because bamboo contains nodes that will block the flow of the oil. Over time, rattan reeds become completely saturated and will no longer give off
